I can't seem to get Virtual VCR to record anything longer than 4GB. At 4GB it crashes the entire computer. I never had this problem with VirtualDub, or Free VCR. Free VCR is great, but it won't, as far as I can tell, let me set up timed recording. VirtualDub does not sync the audio properly. So, I would like to get VirtualVCR working. There must be a way, surely other people record longer than 10 minutes.

I see you're running Windows98 Thus your hard drive is formatted to FAT32 which has a 4gig file limit you have to upgrade to Win200 or XP to format to NTFS. XP would be better for video capture.

Eureka! I just figured out Free VCR has timed recording, and how it works! If only this thing had instructions, I could have known sooner. He's called it differed recording.

you can use "virtualdub" instead.
it has the option to capture to a nuber of files (each up to 3.9 gig)
so this will solve your problem.
after you capture, when you open the first file in virtualdub - it will
load all the other files that are a part of that capture, and you can frameserve to the encoder you want to use.

VirtualDub was the first program I tried. I used it for quite a while before I realised it doesn't sync the audio properly. If more than one frame is dropped at a time, it only counts it as one frame. It also tends to under-correct even single frames, assigning them about 17ms at 30fps, when in fact they should be 33.3ms. (in my experience... other people obviously have gotten it to work for them)

have you tried "lock audio stream to video"
in virtualdub? - it might help.
i dont know what codec are you using to captre, but if you use a codec
that uses a lot of cpu power, it will cause audio problems.
i use "Huffyuv" codec for video, and use pcm 44,100 16 bit 172kb
for the audio. if you use compression on the audio while you capture
it might be the cause of all your truble.HELL AINT A BAD PLACE TO BE -
I used the locking audio to video, and it would do it, just not well. I was using the exact settings that you list.
