  1. For those of you who use DVD2AVI to frameserve and TMPGEnc to encode... I've done much research on this and have found mixed answers. Maybe you can help clear this up for me...

When I frameserve in DVD2AVI, I set the YUV-> RGB setting to TV Scale... and in TMPGEnc I leave the output data as CCIR601.. this is supposed to limit the color scale to 16-235 which is supposed to be standard for TV viewing...

I've seen some postings out there that indicate that DVDs are mastered with a 0-255 color scale. Then I've seen other posting that indicate they are mastered with the 16-235 color scale... see my confusion (hopefully I haven't confused anyone reading this)....

I would like to know which color scale to use when encoding DVDs. Please reply back with anything.. your personal preferences... articles you may have read... or even other posting references that are out there....
    Thanks.

It probably depends on which country the DVD is to be distributed in. Japan and the US both use NTSC but Japan uses 0 IRE and the US uses 7.5 IRE so 16-235 would be correct for the US but 0-255 would be correct for Japan. I forget how it works with PAL but I think they use 0 as well.
