Merry christmas to all

I have done quite a few DVDtoVCd ripping and just brought a dvd writer has i got fed up of getting up half way through the film to change the disc's over so i thought right DVD writer is the way forward.The question is :- i used the dummies guide DVD to DVD-r i got all the software and started donig the rip no problems all complete until i came to burning the disc it would not let me burn it.i noticed in the reading they go an about DVD-R I am using the sony dur-500a dvd writer which supports the both formats but i was using the DVD+R disc is this the reason why i cant burn the disc i cant get any DVD-r until the new year to try
any help/advice i would be very great full sorry about waffling on and thanks for taking the time to read this
