In another post I reported having trouble capturing uncompressed avi from my Hi8 camera without a lot of frame drops using UleadStudio 6.02. I followed the advice in the posts and made sure my system was appropriately tweaked. Downloaded VirtualDub-now here's the rub...When I try to play back uncompressed avi captured in Virtual Dub I get sound but no video, however I can now suddenly capture avi uncompressed in Ulead without frame drops Which leads me to believe that installing Virtual Dub added some new codecs. Also, I received a warning from VD on its intial run that there were some potentiously dangerous codecs on my system "angel something" that I removed. So being a newbie I am lost in codec confusion and I think that the key to my capture problem lies somewhere there. Are there any utilities that can verify the integrity of the codecs installed on my system or is there a reference for listing known bad -actor-codecs or bad mixes? How do I sort this out and clean it up? Any suggestions as to which codecs I should install and which I should remove? Why would some codecs play havoc with uncompressed avi capture? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
