memorex CD-R with jpeg files does load on Philips 724

I burned the CD with Nero using my Yamaha CD writer. It is just a bunch of jpeg files (with .jpg extension. The 724 manual says .jpg or .jpe is fine). The disc does not even load. what am i doing wrong ? or, is the player supposed to play only kodak photo CDs and not plain .jpg files ? (is there any difference ?).
