  1. I have a movie in .AVI format. When I play it on my computer using MS-Media Player, it plays in wide screen mode (top and bottom of computer screen are black, movie plays in middle of screen, but stretched out to the edges). This is how it should be played.

I have burnt this AVI file to a CD using the VCD wizard in NERO. When I play it on my DVD and TV, it plays fine, except the picture is stretched/chopped to fit the TV screen, (no longer plays in wide screen mode). Everybody's heads are oval and it is quite disturbing when they show close ups.

Anyway, I have tried everything on my DVD to get it to play in wide screen mode, but to no avail. I assume it is caused by the settings I used when I burnt the VCD in Nero. Any ideas how I can fix this ?

  2. I had the same problem with my first Nero VCD. I don't know if there is a setting to change the aspect ratio in Nero, but I would strongly suggest an external encoder such as TMpegEnc.

  3. first of all don't convert it with nero this sucks i had the same problem, TMpegEnc will do the job more than fine, plz remember to convert it to the right fps so if you live in europe use pal 25fps otherwise use ntsc, if you burn the movie check if its burned pal or ntsc, if you do this it will probably have the same layout as the original avi.

    hope to have helped you

Also, NTSC can be 29.97fps or 23.976fps for VCD.

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

  5. Thanks for the words of wisdom! I am glad its not just me!

So I am now using TMPGEnc to convert. I am confused about the fps - you mentioned -

plz remember to convert it to the right fps so if you live in europe use pal 25fps otherwise use ntsc, if you burn the movie check if its burned pal or ntsc, if you do this it will probably have the same layout as the original avi.
In the instructions posted, it says to check the video source FPS/Framerate, and use this. I checked out the original .AVI and it says its 25 fps. So in TMPGenc I select PAL. But I live in North America... Should I have selected NTSC ?

    A bit confused I am.

  6. Always use the same format as in the AVI. Select PAL in this case.
