  1. Hi have been converting using both TMPEG (encoding) and VD(extracting audio).

The movies now use an AC3 codec and i cant install it.

My question is: What is the diff in quality when just using TPMEGEnc by itself without extracting the audio in VD first.

    Cheers

  2. Whatever you do, if your downloaded movie has Ac3 audio and you are converting it to mpeg-1 or 2, you will have to extract the audio (using virtualdub direct stream copy) and handle it seperatley. The normal procedure would be to convert it to an uncompressed wav file before converting it. Look under the convert section on the left, there is a guide on doing this.

  3. As far as I know TMpegEnc isn't able to convert AC3 at all. When you open up the AVI, it should leave the audio input field blank.
You can extract AC3 audio with a special VirtualDub version (look at DivXDigest, for example), then convert it to WAV using BeSweet.
If you have a 5.1 AC3 (and surround speakers) you should try Hypercube Transcoder. It allows you to convert AC3 sound to 5.1 MPEG multichannel directly from the AVI.
There are only 10 types of people in the world:
    Those who understand binary
    and those who don't.

  4. My way is covert the audio of divx file to wav file in VD, put full procesing, and in the conversion menu, chosee 44100, 16bits, high quality.

The way Tmpgenc transform the audio from a divx file is very bad.
