I have read that VCD menus dont work in many standalone dvd players, so should i jsut forget them. If I do this will i have a quick way of getting to a certain part of the movie if say I want to quit watching and resume later?

well vcdeasy suppose to do it. i know sonic my dvd 4.0 dose. as skipping to a certain part you need to add chapters for that.

What i was asking was whether a standalone dvd player can "fast forward" a vcd to a certain part if i choose not to include chapters and menus. and i have read that many standalone players dont even work with these menus and chapters

Some players can FFWD and REW while a vcd is playing. My Apex 1200 is capable of this.

Essentially a DVD players are VCD2.0 compatible which means you can play menus and chapters just fine.
People who have "problems with menus" undoubtedly fall into a number of categories:
(1) they didn't make the VCD properly (and hence they don't work)
(2) their player doesn't read CD-R and hence nothing on a CD-R will work
(3) they are confusing VCD with something else
