By the way as far as compatibility goes, on standalone dvd players for VCD is there any compatibility differences between ntsc and ntsc film? or will the players over here in the US play both. A few players I am looking at getting say VCD as a format they play. Does this usually mean ntsc, film or both?

Since most DVD's made from movies are 24 fps NTSC film, any player that can do VCD should be able to do both.

That doesn't follow. Since most DVD's use AC3 for audio, you can use that for VCDs too? (no you can't, BTW).
In the perfect world, NTSC-FILM should be as supported as NTSC in all VCD compatible players. In the real world, there are some players that can't play FILM framerate VCDs properly.
