  1. i used to be able to rip movies at anywhere between 6x and 15x, with any program i used (i used smart ripper, dvd decryptor).

and now all of a sudden i can only rip at 1.9 - 2.1x and that is as high as it goes, also i can't do anything else on my computer while i'm ripping because it runs so slow.

i did a check to see if i was in "ultra dma mode" transfer, and it said i was in PIO transfer mode, so i switched it back to ultra dma mode, and after i restart it keeps telling me i'm in PIO mode, it's really irritating.

i have always had it in Ultra DMA mode, i know my dvd supports it... is this the reason why i am ripping movies so slow? and if so, how can i fix this problem to change the setting to ultra dma mode.

    i am using windows xp...
and like a sony dvd player.. 16x i think.

i know how to change the setting from PIO to Ultra DMA, but even when i do that and restart... nothing changes. And i have no clue how it even got changed to PIO.

would a system restoration correct this problem? i guess i'll wait to get some responses before i do anything.

When exactly was this? If you did a major software update (especially an operating system change), my guess is that your ASPI layer is outdated (or you just didn't get the best one). Many of my DVD related issues were solved after i upgraded my ASPI.
    Hope this helps,

  3. i know it wasn't a problem of aspi because i had those updated, and i didn't think dvd decryptor used aspi.?

but anyways, i did a system restoration and my dvd rom drive was set back into ultra dma mode, just like it's supposed to be now. so i am all set.

    thanks
