  1. which is the better way when converting to svcd to just convert to one big file and then cut them in half or to just convert half by half using source range im trying to make sure that the audio stays in sync thanks for any help

    I think source range better. Most of the time cutting with bbmpeg works fine too, but source range always works and you can pick the exact frames where you want the pieces to start and end.

    i only use bbmpg for vbr svcd's because if you want the max bitrate per disc source range is just trial and error. no guess work with bbmpg. but for cbr definetly source range.

    Sounds like you're talking about 1-pass VBR (CQ-VBR). If you want a predictable VBR file size you should be using 2-pass VBR. Feed the length of each section in to a bitrate calculator and use the average bitrate it tells you to use, and each CD will be almost exactly full. Probably the best way to make use of your space when you only split a movie at scene changes.
