    ...capture with Virtualdub?

    I suppose I should elaborate...

I know absolutely nothing about webcams, I've been doing all my captures using non-camera sources (VCR, Digital Cable box) and I could just use another analog camera or camcorder to do this, but I'm not really looking to pay $200 or more for one...

I don't need the webcam to do video chat or any normal intended purpose for one... I only need it to do very cheap, simple video captures, all within a few feet of the computer.

I've seen a few that claim they can capture up to 30 fps and up to 640x480 res, so does this mean I could use a webcam as a regular camera? And how do they do in weird light? (low light, or pointed outdoors?)

I'm not worried about frills, I'm expecting lower-than-perfect results, and my eye is on the low end of capability ($50 or cheaper even). Just something to get the job done...

...and hopefully will work as an additional capture device in Virtualdub?...

Any advice would be appreciated, like I said I know nothing about webcams whatsoever.

...Works with V-Dub... hmm.. I am intrigued.

Thanks for the response... I'll have to look around for that Creative one, I also saw a GE one that has a built-in mic on it for $30-something...
