Can TMPGE be set up to convert mutiple avi's one after another with no imput from the user. Would like to convert a bunch of avi's without having to do them one at a time.

Batch encoding is the answer for you. Instead of hitting the start button for encoding, simply Save Project from File menu (in .tpr file) After you created all .tpr files (one for each AVI), then go to File -> Batch encode, select all the .tpr files and hit 'Run' button (and then go to sleep).
