My trusty AD-600a has recently started having problems playing SVCD's - (stuck on "INIT" display; having to eject & reload the disc several times before it would read / play), so I decided to try replacing the loader with a Toshiba SD-M1216 - I didn't fully install it, just hooked up the power and IDE cable to see if it would work.
Loaded a DVD - worked fine
loaded a 'problem' SVCD ( with selectable subtitles) - loaded fine, played fine -but no subtitles!
Had the same result with a subtitled CVD - loaded and played fine, but no displayed subtitles.
Anyone else run into this - and is there a fix (firmware update, etc.)?

    Thanks
BTW - I have a Toshiba SD-M1212 in my pc - if anyone can verify that it will not have the subtitle problem, I'll swap it out.
    You can't fool me, I'm a moron!

  2. I had the same problem with my AD-600. I replaced it with a Pioneer Drive, it reads alot of formats, and it was one of the recommended replacements. You need to go to Nerd-Out.com They are the unofficial Apex hacking site. They will have all the firmware/hardware hacks you need.

    Good Luck
