  1. Team,

I've tried numerous time to create a VCD that will run on at least one of my 2 DVD's (a Sony and a JVC - both of which are "checked off" for playing a vcd.

I have created a short .avi movie (about 5 min's) using Windows Movie Maker (w/ a save as an AVI). I have used the reccomended TMPEGNG 2.5 to convert the avi file to MPEG then Roxio EZ CD Creator v.5 Platinum
to burn the VCD. Simple formating , one track (althopugh during the burn it warns me that the original file has changed - I continue. I have Roxio set to test then burn at 4x.

After completion neither DVD player recognizes it as a disc when inserted.

Am I missing an important step? Could it be the media (I am using CD-R)

I am using IBM CD-R as the media. My sony is a DVP-S360 (a common DVD player that indicates on the faceplate that it playes VCD's - My Jvc is a XV-501)

ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Lou P.

Reading the comments on both of those players in the DVD players section, this website it seems like in most, if not all cases, people had to use CD-RW (CD-R disks don't work) disks to burn VCDs. This is a common problem with some players.

  3. I have the same player and have had the same problems. First, I would say that this is a media problem. This player only recognizes silver back discs. Any cd-r with a blue tinted face will not work. Try the Sony cd-rw media or any other silver back media and it should work. Also it would help if you would post what your player is doing or saying when you try to play it. If it says that it cannot see the disc, or "NO DISC", this is your problem.

  4. Thanks guys.

Exactly right. I was using standard CD-R when I switched to CD-RW media and encoded using the same tools noted it worked fine. FYI. The message on my DVD Player(s) was "No Disc". Success using Sony CD-RW650HS.

  5. I'm not trying to be an &*( or anything but there is a link to the left hand side saying "DVD Player".If you had taken the time to look both of yours up,which i did for you, you'd have seen that neither you Sony or JVC can play VCD's in CD-r format only CD-RW.

Lighten up a little Fistandantilus. It's a forum, not brain surgury. We don't have to burn them at the stake for not doing all of their homework. They may not have been aware that there is even a list of players (cept for hwoodwar of course), who did do his homework...
Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything...
