  2. didn't try but my best guess would be to use virtualdub and save video and ausio uncompressed. Then recompress full streem with divx codex 4.xx+greater.

    Hope this helps.

PS also check out the app dvd2avi, try to save project and rip with TMPGEnc to mpg format. Either one I think should work.

    I didn't try - just my 2 cents

That should be straightforward. Load into Virtualdub. Save out the audio direct stream copy. This will be mp3, so rename the wav extension to mp3.

    Select Audio>No audio.
Locate a copy of Gspot to get a rough idea of the original video bitrate (or do some sample encodes with a bit of simple maths).
    Video>Fast recompress.
    Video>Compression (select your DivX codec).>Configure.
Select 2-pass, first pass + selected bitrate. (plus any other settings you want to use).
OK>OK>File>Save as avi (tick the box to defer processing.)
Do the same again from *Video>Compression* selecting 2nd pass.
    File>Job control>Start.
When you have your silent avi, load into nandub and interleave with the mp3 audio.

Well, I wonder if that worked? Perhaps if you get answers you could provide feedback - positive or otherwise?
