  1. Hi folks. was looking for some advice. I have 2 dads army DVD's which I want to back up. The problem being is that they contain about 6 episodes each so I can't rip them as normal to get only the main movie files. Is there a way to re-encode the whole DVD which is about 8.7gb so that it is small enough to fit on 1 DVD-R or if not can anyone suggest the best way forward. The DVD does not have subtittles or other languages so even ripping out the extras means it will be over 4.7gb.
links to guides would be appreciated or if anyone else has managed to do a similar thing please let me know.

    Thanks in advance

  2. I've been watching your question waiting for a reply from someone who's done this. ...

Episodes, I think, will have to be dealt with seperately. After you compress each one then you will have to make a menu, or edit the menu that is already there.

Compressing the episodes would be easy enough, just have to work out how big each one could be to fit x ammount on a 4.3GB disk.

Can't help you much with the menu though...

  3. hi,
yes had thought about that. I actually used dvdxcopy and copied the whole disc onto 2 X DVD-R but thats not ideal. I would still like to put the whole 6 episodes onto 1 DVD-R using the same menu.....anyone help ???

I haven't done it myself, but I believe the way it's done is to use something like DVD2AVI to convert the VOBs to AVI files, then re-encode those to a smaller resolution and/or bitrate of your choice and then author a new DVD with those new files.
