Hey guys, hopefully this is a common problem. I was doing the dvr-ms to avi conversion described in another post with graphedit. I worked only once unfortunately. Every time I go to do it again (even after a reboot) I put all the decoders and multiplexor's and file writer in place, and go to configure the filter configurator. The next step is to select the video codec in that box and set the divx or xvid settings I want. Now, whenever I click on the divx config thing, graphedit instantly closes. I've tried substituting xvid.. wmv... divx 4.02.. doesn't matter what codec I put, graphedit closes instantly. I've reinstalled and re-registered all the .ax files it comes with, along with all the ones from the codecs I'm using. Same thing. Ideas? Thanks.

Nevermind, after I did some digging, I was able to find the answer on the configurator page. The following tip was exactly the problem.
Attention: audio codecs usually require that the input is connected to allow you choose the compression. Video codecs on the contrary should not have their input connected when you configure the compression or they might crash and blow up the whole GraphEdit. -
I've had the same problem except everytime i went to "insert filters" the program would close instantly. I'd get that message, "GraphEdit has encountered and problem and needs to close." Were you getting that message also?
How did you end up solving the problem? I think i understand your explanation from your post but i just wanted to make sure i cover everything before i try again. Thanks for the heads up.Traci

It sounds like you're not getting as far as I was. It seems like you have a codec or filter installed that's somehow conflicting, and graphedit is crashing when it goes to load all the filter names. Graphedit comes with a utility that identifies the various filters you have installed, so it might help if you remove the most recently installed filters, as one of them might be the problem. You can also try rolling back your windows XP (assuming you're using that) system with the system restore feature.

Yeah, i love system restore (roll back). Anyhow, i think the latest thing i installed was the DirectX 8 and also one of the latest DivX codecs. Should i install some other version any of these?

Not same problem but I have a file I'm trying to load into GraphEdit. I can add the filters just fine, but when I load the file, it just hangs...
Is there a file size limitation in GraphEdit?
BTW: I'm trying to convert a HD-DVD to WMV HD. Seems that the VC-1 file is large...>15GB.
