  1. I seem to lose alot of quality when converting from minidv, avi capture over to mpeg1 or 2. I edit and convert using ulead 6.0 and burn with nero. The quality when playing back on the computer or tv is marginal at best. It seems like when the picture gets any larger than media player on a 19" screen (not on full screen mode), it get very grainy. How do I stop this or is this all that can be expected. When I play the tape right from the sony camcorder to the tv, it is a great picture....

  2. I am having this same problem. I am using Pinnacle Studio 8. I was thinking since everything was digital the picture would be a lot clearer.

    Thanks,

You're going from a format with very little compression to a highly compressed format so of course there's going to be quality loss. Try using TMPGEnc and 2 pass VBR with a high maximum, low minimum and highest average that will still allow you to get your footage on the disc(s) you want. For MPEG1 I use 2520 max, 1 min, 1150 or less average to fit on 80min CD and for MPEG2 8000 max, 1 min, and about 3000 average. Also, change the motion search precision to high or highest though highest doesn't give much improvement over high and takes quite a bit longer.
