Hi just been to a friends house to look at his pc.He said it crashed and couldnt do anything with it so he switched it of at the wall. When he tried to reboot he gets nothing. The fans all kick in but nothing. The strange thing is that as soon as the power is switched on at the wall the fans kick in before he press's the power swith on the front of the pc.Both the cd's draws will still open and i've tried an old harddrive but still cant get it to reboot.
Can anybody help with a suggestion of what to try or is it dead.It is a fairly old 850mhz duron on an msi board if thats any help?.

its weird that the cds open.do the lights on the keyboard and the red light on the tower light up?
could it be that he tried to over clock?
clear the cmos.
if he didn't do that then try another video card. -
Is it giving any beeps? You should hear the normal single short beep for no issues, and different beeps for different problems. The motherboard maker will have a guide on their web page. Try disconnecting everything from the motherboard except the vid, processor and mem. If still no boot pull the mem, try again, then try the processor, then the video. You should get beeps... If all else fails, try a different power supply. I had a similar problem with a customers computer, power supply would power the fans, drives, but not the motherboard itself.
