  2. I wouldn't install it unless your software specifices it because it could cause display/capture problems. Here's the beta version which expires on 3/19/2003:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5759bee4-ba2d-40d7-97b1-75b2f...displaylang=en

I agree caution is advised. In the past, new versions have caused problems for awhile. I may try it because I have an image of my C:drive that I can backup to D:. If directx9 screws up the computer, I can replace the defective C: with the good image from D:. Drive Image is invaluable piece of software..

  4. My new ASUS TV Tuner was working wonderfully on WINXPSP1.

I just installed the DirectX9 final retail.

WHAT A MISTAKE! Hosed the tv tuner.

Did a system restore to get back to 8.1 and it still isnt right. After reboot I can open and use the app once. If I close it and try to open it a second time I can hear the tv bu there is no app showing not even in windows task manager. If I log off I can still hear the TV. Have to reboot to shut it off.

Oh well, time to reformat, wasn't planning on this.

This is no surprise to me at all. Remember one thing:Microsoft does not support WIN 98 - Me anymore. They don't really care about compatibility issues, with older OS's, as they want us all to go to XP NOW!!

And what's wrong with that? In all seriousness 9x is dead. Get used to it. All the major venders have shifted their support behind XP. I've been running XP since it was released and will admit that in the beginning it was terrible do to the fact of a lack of driver support. Now fast forward to today and I wouldn't dream of going back. I'm not going to sit here and list all the pro's and con's since this has been discussed countless times, but I see no reason to hang on to legacy OS's since XP has matured so much in the past year. Try it. You'll like it.
    Warning! I'm baaaaaaaaack

It is not an XP world yet. I have too much software and hardware that would be a major expense to compensate for. When I get my next machine, then it will be different. Example: Recently bought a Clickart disk, additional Fonts, etc,etc,etc.. No mention of XP compatibility on the boxes. We are still in a change over mode. Vendors are unloading their W9X software to clear the deck. I know however, that XP is the way to go, just not yet for me. At this time, I would lose far more than I would gain.

Most software developers could care less if their new software that was designed for xp works with older operating systems, and why should they?
You will most likely replace your computer every 3 years anyway unless you build your own and it never stops taking from your checking account. I have a slim sony vaio laptop that I payed to much for 3 years ago, it is my toy now, I put xp on it for laughs.
