You will find a link to ffdshow at www.doom9.net.

Sometimes this is all you need, but you can try installing the XviD codec again. This seems freqently to change!

What else you might try is with ffdshow XviD playback ticked, and unticked, and with XviD installed and not installed. (And all combinations thereof!)

Some of the best encoded material I have is XviD, but I do find it a pain because my aim always is to convert to (S)VCD. All can go well for months, and then I start to have various problems again.

There's the Codec and the Directshow filter. It depends on what your player uses. I think (and I'm probably wrong) that WMP 6.4 (start/run mplayer2) uses the codec. WMP 7.1 and 9 Beta use the direct show filter if it's there. I think it will try and use a broken direct show filter over a good working codec.

What player are you using? And have you tried a different one?
Get the latest XviD codec, it is superior to the one in Nimo 5.08.

I've had a lot of issues with directshow filters and codecs working/breaking. ESPECIALLY with audio codecs and specifically 'DivX WMA Audio'.

No need to worry. ffdshow installs and removes very easily, but first fiddle with the configuration, switching Xvid on and off. Also, permutate with the new Xvid codec!

    Ain't XviD a pain? 8)

  8. Yes Xvid is a pain but i must be more of a pain.
If tried switching the ffdshow xvid tick of and on.
    With it off green blocks
With it on black screen and wont play.
Where can i get the latest xvid codec when i was searching i was told to try divx 5.0 and the nimo codec pack, neither of these work.
    Any more ideas

LMAO, XviD is fun! reminds me of DivX 3.x days!!!

Your running XP, and as I recall it doesn't come with WMP 6.4, so you can't do that test.

WMP9 is part of the problem, it's BETA!!! You do know that it can't be un-installed? You have to format your drive and re-install your OS.....

Try this. Remove all your codecs. Nimo codec pac, and anything you installed. All of them.

    RE-BOOT

Now, just install the XviD codec. Not the directshow filter, the codec. Try that. If it doesn't work, try the directshow filter.

Also, try a different XviD. You may have a corrupt one, or an oddball setting in it.

I've been down the 'codec hell' road before, and it's why I have ghost image backups of my encoding machine. WMP7.1/9 and WME do NOT work well with other codecs sometimes. It's an issue on which order you install what(apps/players first, codecs last work best)

  11. Did you install the xvid codec with the nimo codec pack in the first place? I had the same problem you do. What I did was uninstall the nimo codec pack (full version 8 release). Then I installed the actual divx codec, then the actual xvid codec seperate from nimo. Then I reinstalled nimo, but with the divx and xvid boxes unchecked. Ever since then, my computer has played every video I have tried. Give it a try.

NOW I know the solution to this shit.
I uninstalled all DivX codecs and xvid codecs. Then I Installed only xvid to test if it worked and it did but with no sound cause it had ac3 sound.
You can install xvid codecs from here:
    http://www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html

Then I installed all DivX codecs separat (Not from Nimo).
    http://www.divx-digest.com/software/divxcodec.html

After that I installed Nimo Pack but unchecked all divx codecs and the xvid codec and also uncheck a direct show filter which is Ffdshow DirectShow 2002-04-19. Install Nimo from here:
    http://www.btinternet.com/~nimosiro/

    Now all should work fine!
