  1. I'm trying to convert an AVI to VCD and I am having a hard time extracting the sound. I tried to go into virtualdub and switch to full processing mode, but everytime I do that it gives me an error message when I try to make the wav.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

Its a lot easier to find a solution if you know what the problem is!

I have the same problem when I try to convert certain movies, such as blade II or Harry Potter 1. I follow the guide that is on this website but when I try to save the WAV in virtual dub i get

"The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. Check that the sampling rate and channel count of the input match those of the requested format."

I also try skipping virtual dub and using the divx file for the audio source and it says " 'harry potter cd1.avi' could not be opened or is not supported". The file is directly on my hdd. Im thinking its encoded differently or I need a codec pack. If someone has coverted these movies to vcd please tell me how you did it / what codec's / versions of virtual dub/ tmpenc your using. Thanks guys!
    work sucks :)

You have a missing codec required for the audio. Find and download gspot. OPen your avi in that program and it will tell you what codec you need.

  5. Alright that helped alot, and I am missing an Audio Codec, but I can't seem to find it to download, or what I do get downloaded doesn't help at all.

Gspot shows that the audio codec is '"mpeglayer3 (mp3) (0x0055) ISO/MPEG", I have downloaded a program called l3codecp.exe, but gspot still says I'm missing it?\

    What am I missing?

  6. try the Lame mp3 codec. You can find a link to it in the tools section.

  7. Alright, now that I have the correct codec, I got rid of that error message, but now when I got to create the wave, it says

Error initializing audio stream decompression: The requested conversion is not possible. Check to make sure you have the required codec.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

  8. In virtualdub check you have the following settings before trying to save the wav file.

Audio->compression Should be set to No Compression (PCM)
Audio->conversion should be set to 44100hz Or No change if the audio is already 44100Hz.
