  1. Hi
I used to burn my mpg files with Nero but I have a new computer so Nero wont work (it states it can only use the drive that it was bundled with, thanks a lot ahead). My existing burning program can only burn VCD and not SVCD. So Can I simply put my SVCD mpg file into VCDEasy and burn straight to disk? (I'm a tad confused that the guide says it outputs a bin file?!?)

Yes you can use it to burn the SVCD.

  3. The VCDEasy package contains a CD burning application. Yes, the program ultimately outputs a bin/cue file, but this burning module can write it to CD for you if it supports your CD writer. Otherwise, you'll need another program (such as CDRWin) to burn the bin/cue.

  4. Ok, thanks a lot guys, I'll give it a go and see if it recognises my drive.

  5. go into the settings in VCDEasy and change to force the program to write as a genericc mm burner (am at work but I did this on thursday night so I know it works!). My Liteon did not show up in the pick list for drivers but so long as you can see your burner on the initial tab you should be able to force proggy to burn.

insert your mpeg, let the program analyse it and then save it as a bin/cue file-remember to change the settings to Svcd. You can now use either VCD Easy or Nero as it will pick the image up and burn.

    Hope this helps

  6. Cool
Just a quick question, when it outputs the bin file, does it do that straight to cdr or to the harddrive?

  7. Basically:

    - VCDEasy creates an XML file
    - it then uses VCDXBUILD (from VCDImager 0.7.12) to create a CUE/BIN image of the VCD from the XML file on your HDD
    - it then uses CDRDAO to burn the CUE/BIN image onto CD-R/W media.

You can set VCDEasy to just create the XML file, or to create the CUE/BIN image as well, or to burn it to CD-R as well.

  8. Just another quick question, by installing VCDEasy, will it interfer with my current cd burning program (RecordNow DX)?

The CD writing engine that VCDEasy uses (CDRDAO) is the most neighbour friendly CD writing app there is (no registry entries, no DLL's scattered and/or replaced all over the place...), but it does require a functioning ASPI layer to work, which may or may not interfere with existing CD writing apps, even if it ought not to. If VCDEasy says that your ASPI leyer is OK, then there's absolutely no problem. If not, you have to install ASPI (try ForceASPI) before using CDRDAO.
But as long as you have something that can burn cue/bin, you can use VCDEasy to create the cue/bin, then use your regular writing software to write it to CD

  10. Right, now you have lost me, previous posts said that VCDEasy will actually do the burning to CD? That was my problem in the first place as my existing burning software only burns VCD and not SVCD

Sorry if I confused you. VCDEasy can burn the cue/bin it creates using CDRDAO, but, if your writer isn't supported by CDRDAO or you can't get ASPI to work, then any other cd writing software you own (that supports writing cue/bin) can be used to write this cue/bin to CD. At this stage, it doesn't matter if the CD writer software supports VCD/SVCD, that part is already taken care of by VCDEasy. For the cd writing app, it's just another cue/bin that's being written to a CD. Its content are of no importance.

  12. Right I think I am understanding, previously with Nero I had to select VCD or SVCD to put my mpg into, so are you saying that I can just drop and drag the bin file into a cd writing program (provided it supports cue/bin), ie do I select it as a data disc or vcd disc or music disc in the cd burning program or doesn't it matter?

Right, just select the cue/bin, and if your cd writing app knows how to handle cue/bin, there should be no further questions - just click on Burn!
