I am ripping Halloween: Resurrection and I have now seen something I have never seen before. But it always seems like there is something else which will go wrong unfortunately. The movie is less then 4 GB'S...at least the "main" movie is. All of the extra's , etc..make the movie about 7 GB'S. I just want the main movie. When I stripped it with IFOEdit, and burned it on a DVD+R, I had some weird things happening. At first, it looked like the movie was just hiccuping and replaying the same frame two or three times, then going to the next. This only happened at the beginning of the movie and the opening credits. Once the actual movie started, there was no problems at all. The sound would also skip. But then I noticed that the reason this was happening was not due to the fact that the picture was skipping, but because it was playing the opening credits in English with the Halloween Music...but then it rapidly would change the screen and say the EXACT SAME thing in French. It looked like French to me anyway. My point is that when you watch the actual movie off of the DVD, it will just show you the English credits, but even when the movie is ripped to the hard drive and the first "VOB" is opened...the same exact thing happens. So it has nothing to do with IFOEdit. I searched every other VOB to see if there was some trick to why this was happening, but none of the other vobs have the opening credits. Can anyone, ANYONE, please explain why this is happening? Has anyone backed this movie up? If so, how? I know if anyone else has done this movie, they must of experienced the same thing, unless they knew in advance how to prevent it. Any info on this would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks

UPDATE: Now this is really perplexing! I just used VOBRATOR to analyze the main movie files of the movie. There are only four main vobs. Vobs 2, three and four are fine. They only have about 1 "cell" a piece. But the first VOB in the main movie set....VOB VTS_01_1, has five cells and cells 1 & 2 are the SAME EXACT THING! Cells 3 & 4 are also the same exact thing. For example..cell 1 is 3:21 in length and it shows all of the opening credits in English AND in French, followed by the first minute or so of the movie. Vob 2 shows the same exact thing! I am pretty sure this has something to do with why the frames keep repeating themselves in the opening credits and the beginning of the movie. VOB'S 2, 3, AND 4, play perfectly and have no problems. Again, if ANYONE can give me any info or help on this, I would appreciate it. [/code]

UPDATE, UPDATE.....WELL, It looks like I've figured out how to solve this problem of the "TRICKY VOBS"...hahahaa....It appears those slick bastards over at "DIMENSION FILMS" have some smooth setup when the Vobs are ripped, the first vob has duplicate cells which completely screw up the beginning of the movie. The movie appears to keep repeating the same frames over and over because the cells are duplicated. I figured I would just try and rip the movie with IFOEdit, and delete the second and fourth "cells" because they were EXACT duplicated of cells 1 and 2. Once I did that, and IFOEdit was done stripping....I played that first VOB like a CHARM! hahaha..Just like it plays on the original disk. I have to say that I am proud of myself....."taps self on back".....I hope other people out there didn't think they could just make a rip and burn of this movie like so many others...because if they did and they haven't watched the movie as of yet..they will be in for a big surprise when they do. A wasted DVD-/+R! Anyway, I still would appreciate if anyone could explain to me how the movie plays perfectly on the DVD, but when you make an EXACT COPY of it on the hard drive, it mixes in those two duplicate cells. Why would it only look at one of the two cells on the original disk and play that smoothly? It's very interesting...but I have to say one last thing....DIMENSION FILMS.....I still ripped your shit up!! THANKS...HAHAHAAAAAAAAAA

If I remember correctly from when I did it I believe it had 2 different sets of opening titles because one displayed in English while the other displayed in French...If you still woulda burned it with both it still would have played as normal on your dvd player as it does in ifo edit since it is set to english..of course, by getting rid of it though it will save space and allow for xtra goodies
all I did was rip out angle 2 and kept angle 1. This should help others trying to bring this hottie to dvd-r.

Earthbound, you must be using a different region or DVD type. I am referring to the REGION I, NTSC version of Halloween Resurrection. There are no various angles on that version because when any movie I put through IFOEdit has seamless branching, or additional angles, the box is highlighted. For this movie, it was greyed out. There is only "ONE" set up VOBS for the main movie and opening scene on this particular disk, however there are "IDENTICAL" cells with the same exact frames. One set is in ENGLISH, the other is in FRENCH. When you rip and burn it on a DVD-R, it plays both sets almost simultaneously which causes the picture to almost appear to be skipping constantly. Even when you just rip the movie to the hard drive, WITHOUT IFOEdit, and run powerdvd on it, it does the same exact thing. What perplexes me most now is how I can run the movie from the actual DVD and not have this occur, but when the exact same files, in the exact same order are ripped to the hard drive, and you start by playing VOB_1, it uses both sets of cells and mixes them together, to basically screw up your entire DVD. You can fast forward through about the first 6 minutes or so, but that screws up the entire DVD as far as i'm concerned.
If anyone can tell me why the disk doesn't mix both sets of identical cells on the DVD itself, but once it is ripped to the harddrive it screws everything up...I would appreciate that very much for future reference on another slick company that tries this. Thanks -
Mine was region 1 ntsc...what was odd when I didi it was sometimes the option to remove multiple angles was greyed out and others it wasn't..so when it wasn't I made my move
-
...you made your move?....lmao.... Good one earth. I'm just curious though..did you have to add that IFO into IFOEdit several times in order for that angles box to appear highlighted? If trying to understand what you mean when you say it was sometimes greyed out and sometimes it wasn't. As far as I know, it's pretty simple. When the angles and seamless branching sections in IFOEdit are greyed out, that means there aren't multiple angles or any seamless branching on the movie. When they are highlighted, it means there are. Let me know. Thanks

Now I'm gettin' pissed. I thought I had this film ripped and burned, only to find out that it's still screwed up! After I deleted those duplicate cells and ripped with IFOEdit, the movie played perfect on my harddrive with powerdvd. I figured I would just burn it and when I did, that's when I had basically the same crap occur with the repeating of frames. The credits didn't go from English to French, but it was still skipping. It played better then the first time with both duplicate cells, but it was still not watchable. It does this for the first vob and opening credits for the first few minutes. It also does the same exact thing for the last four or five minutes when it gets to the ending credits. I couldn't even play this on my harddrive without problems and skipping when I left all the files as normal and stripped through IFOEdit, once I deleted the duplicate cells, everything played great on my harddrive, but on my standalone, I got the same crap. The original DVD played perfectly. I'm trying to figure out what is going on...I thought I had it and when I burned it, I found that I had created yet again another COASTER. That movie isn't even worth the $6 I have lost by losing another DVD+R. The movie isn't even worth a couple of rolls of toilet paper, but now it's the principal. I'm gonna rip this and burn it and it's gonna play like the original..I don't know how, but I'm gonna do it. If anyone has stripped this movie, PLEASE LET ME KNOW what methods you used, and more importantly, what is causing this problem! Thanks!
