  1. Hey guys,

Im using tmpgenc to re-encoded some video with better filters (DVD movie) and its an anamphoric format movie. How can I get tmpgenc to output a movie so that it correctly does the squeeze trick to make the black bars appear when viewed on a 4:3 screen?

  2. A few questions for you:

Are you going to burn your outputted file back to DVD?

Did you use the proper settings (source file is 16:9 format, output file is 16:9 display) in TMPGEnc?

What are you using to play back the outputted file? Sometimes if you play your M2V file in Windows Media Player, it will appear elongated. However, if you play your 16:9 file with DVD player software, it will most likely display properly.

This is what I have done in the past when re-encoding an anamorphic movie:

    1. Use the proper settings when encoding in TMPGEnc, most importantly telling TMPG that the file is from a 16:9 source and is to be encoded for a 16:9 display.

    2. Out of preference, I use SpruceUp to author the DVD.

    3. Open up the movie's IFO file, and modifying the Video section to read:

    16:9 letterboxed

If everything is done correctly, your movie will still be anamorphic.
