I'd like to edit some clips of my son, captured from my camcorder using Huffyuv/PicVideo codec.
I don't want anything spectacular, just perhaps a fade in and out facility between each clip, and maybe a front page of some form of introduction (date, location etc).
It needs to be relatively simple to use though (price isn't a worry).
Many thanks,
Will

You can't go far wrong with either Pinnacle Studio 7 (or vers 8.0) or Ulead VideStudio 6.
-
Pinnacle Studio 7 is very simple to use, transitions, title overlays or adding audio. only complain would be in the mpeg output which is so so.
-
Use something like ulead video studio to create your effects, then use TMPGEnc to encode to mpeg if you are looking to create VCD or DVD
-
Pinnacle 7 or 8 (8 if you want create DVD). Very easy and there were some realy good deals lately in BestBuy, CircuitCity and CompUSA. From $19.99 (S8 with MIR) to $120 (I believe that this is regular price)
-
Thanks folks, much appreciated.
$19.99 sounds wonderful BTW, shame I'm in 'USA2' (the UK)
Best wishes for the holidays,

I have Ulead VideoStudio 6.0 updated with the new DVD plugin. I have no knowledge of Pinnicle but assume the other posts are correct. I find the same view about the capture, editing, titling, for VS 6.0, but I'm not impressed with the Mpg processing. First it is very slow, especially for DVD, and the quality on some of the "STill" images was not that good, considering they were "Stills".
Does anyone else have an idea on what a better MPEG encoder would be. If you say, TMPGen, ...well that cost $50 and haven't found it that good. What about BBmpeg?
By the way, I sent a long not to Ulead about a few of the terrible editing problems, human factor problems, in VS 6.0. Hope they work to fix it. The bottom line is that it does finally work, and will produce a good VCD, SVCD, or DVD, down to finding your DVD+RW unit and doing the record.
Also, Has anyone done a side by side comparison on known videos, with programs like Pinnicle, VideoStudio, TMPGen, BBmpeg, etc.
Lets have some comments."Technology",...It's what keeps us all moving forward. -
Pinnacle Studio 7 has a lot of features for the money and does a great job as an editor. Works great if you are willing to encode with TEMPGEnc. Studio 8 is a definite high risk proposition, too many serious bugs, and very poor support. I would stay away from it at this time.

I've recently begun using Nova's Video Explosion Deluxe. So far, so good.I really like it and it seems to be pretty straight forward.
-
download intervideo win producer 3 demo it has an easy interface and has plenty of features to work with
-
Bstansbury, you were asking for a comparison of the different encoders available: you might want to have a look at the comparison page here on this site.

Doesn't anyone use Adamations personalStudio? I use it and it does a great job. Check it out.

I use Studio7 and am quite happy with it. But I use TMPEGEnc or MainConcept to encode. Stay away from Studio8 and even some of the latest patches to Studio7 (a buggy mess). If you already have Ulead 6 it does have one advantage you can now download a frameserver (already posted here somewhere), then you can feed your processed file directly to TMPEGenc or CCE or MainConcept directly without any intermediate avi file. If you have Ulead and are happy with it except for the quality of the mpeg encode I'd try that with TMPEGenc.

Can you be more specific about versions of Studio 7 ? Which one is buggy and which one works ?
-
I use Studio 7 & Studio 8. S7 if very stable with the latest update and S8 works great with 8.3.18. I use to use TMPGEnc but with the latest S7 & S8 releases I find them so close to TMPGEnc it is not worth the extra step.
S7 & S8 are both extremly easy to use but S8 included DVD authoring on the timeline which is a little harder to learn. I also use and Like Vegas Video 3.0c but it's a lot harder!.
Now let's update this USA , UK , Canada thing.
Canada is the 51st state
Mexico is the 53rd state behind Puerto Rico
UK is USA2 or as we like to call it USA lite"It's not what you say, It's what you do" -
Wish I could. I'm at work so I can't say for sure, plus I'd have to go and look at the rev history to be certain. It was a rev that added some features just released in Studio8, but it wrecked any other aps ability to access (I think) direct show files. Plus it crashed all the time, which was why I had stopped using it before. Actually, as long as it doesn't involve a lot of NLE or DV capture I use VirtualDub 100% of the time. But the question seemed aimed at NLE and Virtual Dub isn't a good choice there.
