  1. I have an older Philips\Magnavox DVD player that does support SVCD. If I make a cd using TMPGEnc with 2-Pass VBR that has a variable average bitrate of 1500kbps it will not start up at all. The max bitrate is at 2520kbps and the low is set at 300kbps. If I set the average bitrate at 2000 it plays perfectly. I have also tried lowering the max bitrate down to 2000 but this does not help. I have tried the same thing with a constant bitrate and anything under 2000kbps gives me trouble. Any ideas? Thanks.

  2. there's a dvd player compatibility section on this website where you can look up the compatibility of your dvd player (i.e. which formats, etc.. your dvd player can handle) you should prolly also read the comments by other people with the same dvd player as you. they'll tell you their experience with the dvd player. perhaps, it's the dvd player's problem and you have no choice but to have a higher bitrate SVCD.

also, if you want lower bitrate, have you thought about xVCD?

  3. Run it through TMPGenc's Mpeg tools...simple multiplex. Change the "Type" to VCD. Let it multi-plex. And then burn it as vcd. This should trick your player into thinking it is a VCD.
