When backing up my DVD's I have been using Nero or Gear Pro to write them using the DVD-Video mode.
I use various options to back up the films depending on size etc., e.g. smaller films just use smart ripper or DVD Decrypter to rip then use Nero to burn back or for larger films use smart ripper, ifo and Nero and for the very big films use DVD Decrypter, DVD2AVI, TMPGenc, Chapter Xtractor, DVD Maestro then Nero or Gear Pro.
When using these method they play on all my dvd players and PS2 if writing using DVD-Video mode.
However, some films I do won't let me burn using this method.
In Nero I get the error "DVD VIDEO FILES REALLOCATION FAILED" and in Gear pro a similar message.
I then have to use the option DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO) method UDF partition 1.02.
When I use this method though the films then won't play in two of my dvd players or won't play on PS2 (i have read but haven't tried, if I use UDF1.50 if will play in PS2).
I have tried all types of media even expensive media like Verbatim and quality media like Traxdata and LYNX but the same happens everytime.
Not the media that is causing problems but the write method.
Any suggestions?
Will any program like IFO etc. let me re-allocate the video files and why I am getting this problem on some films and not others.

I just had the same thing happen to me. So I tried your method of using the DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO) method UDF partition 1.02. It worked. However, that is disappointing that it will not play on your ps2. Let me know if you figured a way around this. I want to make the highest compatible disks possible.
Thanks, and good luck -
Update is I burned a disk using DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO) but in the file system version (UDF menu) I changed this to UDF 1.50 instead of the UDF 1.02.
Result is it worked in my PS2 and the two other standalone DVD players.
I also notice on the forum someone else was having this problem.
It seems newer players recognize both udf1.50 and 1.02 while older players only recognize 1.02 so it seems to be trial and error for each dvd player. -
I had (if I remeber correctly) same message "DVD VIDEO FILES REALLOCATION FAILED". I just cliked on OK (or ehat was option) it gave me another message (OK again). It burned just fine and it plays on all my players. I believe it has something to do with fact that I used only first VTS_07_0.VOB and .IFO file and deleted _1 _2 ...
My Nero version is 5.5.9.17(.0 or original)
Let me know if it works for you or if you need some more info. -
I constantly get that message about the "reallocation of files failed" but I found a good fix for it. I load up IFOEdit and open up one at a time the VIDEO_TS.IFO and VTS_xx_x.IFO and click on GET VTS Sectors for each one. That usually fixes the problem and then Nero will accept the files.

Only for records :
I was using the Nero 5.9.9.XX and an Pionner 104, then I make an firmware upgrade to transform my DVD Writer in Region Free and to permit writing 2X in many medias that originally support only 1x, and to permit the use of the new 4X medias too ( but 2x writing only !!! ).
All worked well, and my Samsung OEM medias really writers 2x whitout any error.
But when I try erase an DVD-RW disk, Nero cames with an error message.
Then I try erase with the Imagetools, and the same result.
I tested other programs too, and all with the same error.
Then my last recurse : Download the new Nero 5.5.10.0 !
Bingo !!!! All my DVD-RW can be erased again without problem.
I tested the DVD-Rom UDF and works very well too.
Maybe this can happen with you, then remember to update the Nero when upgrade to the newest firmware upgrade !!!!
