Hi. I've already had a good look at transferring my SVHS tapes to DVD via my PC (see my earlier post) and am beginning to think this will be difficult, time consuming and expensive! My PC would need a serious upgrade (PIII, 64Meg, only 10Gig drive space free).
So what about buying a Philips 890 recorder instead? All I really want to do is a straight copy, except for cutting out scenes I don't want. Increasing colour and sound levels would be ideal, but I could live without it. My main aim is to stop any more deterioration.
I have read this box does editing - but what exactly will it do?
Will the quality be as good as going via the PC?
And is now the time to buy, while so many formats are kicking about? It writes as +R / +RW - could the standard of the future end up being something else - -R / -RW for example?
