I wonder, if I try to convert a Divxencoded movie, thats coded with divx3, And I only have the Divx5codec installed, will I benefit from installing the divx3-codec?
I ask this because it takes like 10 Hours to convert a 2hour movie, no matter what converter I use. And tmpgenc doesnt even work, it stops after 10 minutes with a decimal-yadayada error.
No difference whether I try to convert to VCD,SVCD or DVD. Its the same amount of time...
Is it supposed to be like this?

Converting to mpeg does take time. The divx 5 codec works good at decoding it, it is not the speed issue here. One of the only ways to encode faster is a faster cpu. Or you can always play it from an s-video output... Anyways. Good luck... and good patience (har har)
