Man, I really don't know. It would be great though, you know, if there would be like this site that compiled all kinds of information about all the different DVD players, including PS 2's, X Boxes, etc. Yeah, and it would be so cool cause people could write about their own experiences and tell everybody what worked for them and what didn't. Man, that's such a great idea. I can't believe somebody hasn't already thought of that. But you know what I would do if and when somebody made a site like this? I'd go on the message boards and ask people questions about DVD players even though the information has already been discussed and is already on the site. Man, that would be so cool..............

some ps2's are REALLY picky and play them really poorly.. the ps2 i have has had any problems playing them.. my friends ps2 skips around on them like crazy

1 hint.. do NOT use buffer underrun if you want to have a better chance of havin the DVD play without skipping...and if it still skips try better dvd-rs.

  7. I have a question about this post:
Yes DVD-R made with dvd studio pro play fine on a ps2 - I have made several and had no problems, They even work if you make with a vcd video file and just convert the audi to dvd standard
I am planning on putting a VCD and an SVCD onto a DVD-R using a DVD patcher program (SVCDtoDVD). While I am sure (although not tested) that it will play on my Apex 1100W (cause it plays everything), I am making a copy to play on a PS2. I do not know the version of the PS2 (and there really isnt a way to find out), but was wanting to know if the above statement will hold true.

I have a standard VCD, which I plan on upsampling from 44.1 to 48mhz and a SVCD, which I plan on using SVVD2DVDR (the patching program-may not be called this exactly) to patch the header to "work" on the PS2. I am going to see if I can do a some type of header trick to the VCD (not sure if I need to) and then dump both of them in Movie Factory 2, make a generic menu for them and then burn them to DVD-R on my A05.

All I really want to know is if others have had success. I have skimmed previous posts using various search phrases (PS2 VCD, patch DVD PS2, etc.) and didnt really find (aside from this comment) someone that said. YES, IT WORKS!

The PS2 in question plays DVD-R media just fine, but again I am just looking for someone that has done this (different formats) and had it work. If it did, any tips?

Another way I may go about it is to just use MF2, dump them both in and basically use this guide https://www.videohelp.com/vcddvdr for the VCD and SVCD. I am basically wanting to get confirmation that this will work on a PS2.

YES! No problems... I tried different brand of DVD-R (magnex-pioneer-tdk-vivanco-apple-network-fuji-sony...) authored with DVDSP and burned with my Pioner 105... All was played fine by my PS2!

  9. For me, DVD's work. I've used DVDBackup then DVD2OneX, then burned it w/ Toast (with "prevent buffer enderrun" on) and everything works just fine.

hey umm i have 5 movies that are in MPEG 2 CVD they were all DIVX or XVID and i now have them converted each is like 750 MB ok i used KVCD templates to get good quality. now i wanna know somethings. if i wanna put these five movies on a single DVD-R which would fit cause 800*5=4000 and that would mean i still have about 400 megabytes left for menus and other stuff. ok now what i wanna know is i dont want to use mpeg audio i wanna use AC3 whats the bitrate of AC3. or can i keep the same bitrate but make it seem like its an AC3 audio format. and also one more thing how can i put all these movies on a DVD-R. oh one more thing does PS2 play Mpeg Audio?

ok the point is that i dont have a dvd burner and i am getting one in a week or so and i just want to be prepared. so how do i do it to put those movies on to a dvd. like what program do i use to put all 5 movies into the program and things like that im not a newbie i have about 110 movies. so i have some experience and this whole DVD to CVD is no biggie now i want to put 2 movies on a dvd-R its cause when i rip my movies i use DVD2SVCD to encode to 2 cds depending on the lenght of the movie i will put max 1 hour on one cd-r. so those movies will be high quality. so i want to put 2 dvd rips on one DVD-R and my downloaded movies i want to put several on one DVD-R plus using a certain KVCD template i get excellent results. i tell you its better than what i used to get about a year ago when i would make my vcds using DVDX 2.0 man i compare my CVDS to my old VCDS and man did they Frigin suck.

If you make them right and use good DVD-R discs, yes.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

The ability for a dvd-r to play depends on the burning method. You need to make them the MOST compatible across all brands of dvd players, including sony playstation.

I have a post, called how to burn dvd's using toast, that gives the exact 1.2.3 on what you need to do to make it the MOST compatible for all dvd players

    In a nutshell

    1. Title shoudl be in all caps with _ as spaces (DVD_VIDEO) for example
    2. There should a AUDIO_TS folder (empty) as well as your VIDEO_TS folder in the root of the dvd. Thats to say it should go like this

    DVD_VIDEO
    --------AUDIO_TS
    --------VIDEO_TS
    -----------all the video_ts files....

Ensure you delte any invisible files if present, they sometimes show up and sometimes dont.

Click burn and choose your speed you like the most.

Thtas how to make it the most compatible for all dvd players (including ps2) which plays these dvd-r's for me

  16. I have been doing the CVD to DVD-R thing for a little while now and they have played with no problem on DVD players (even ones that could not play CVD via CD). I use MF2 (for some reason it would not let me put chapters in), put the movies in and then burn to DVD-R. If memory serves, I have played them successfully on a PS2, but cant swear to it at this point.

If you use MF2, be sure to turn uncheck "include DVD ....." and "quick eject" on the last page right before you begin burning (they are in the settings tab).

  17. I have burned probably over 100 dvd-r for my kids and they all have played fine on PS2.

  18. I agree.... as long at the DVD is authored correctly and burnt on QUALITY MEDIA.... it should playback fine on PS2's.

Yes Ps2's lasers can be picky if you use budget media.

I have used RITEK without failure on the PS2 other dvd players tested...this includes games for the Ps2 on DVD-R as well.

  20. I have played DVD-R's 740x480 supermedia's on PS2's and they play fine. What I am trying to find out is if a repatched DVD-R at 480x480 will play on a PS2. Taking that one step further (and I posted this elsewhere this morning), will a PS2 (assumed to be NTSC since it was bought in the US) play a repatched 480x480 DVD-R (actually for the test DVD-RW) PAL 25fps movie (the audio is upgraded to 48mhz).

From what I have read, no one has gotten this granual on the specs. They will say it plays DVD-R just fine (me included), but didnt say, "mine plays repatched and/or PAL DVD-R's on a PS2".

Could anyone confirm this one? I will hear back tonight on if it is successful and will report my findings. Just wanting to know if someone could give a "spoiler".

Also, to get even more detailed. Would it matter if the repatch was 352x480 or 720x480?

  21. I don't know about the naming method described above but I do know that I have 2 PS2's and the version7 PS2 plays the dvd-r and the other PS2 (version3) does not play dvd-r's at all. It only plays non-dvd's.

  22. Not that I'm adding much to conversation here, nevertheless:

Before the age of DTOX, ocassionally, a DVD-R would not work very well on the PS2, however, everything done with dvd2one works fine now.

Again, as said before, I do know they are picky about media, the only brand I've used that didn't work was BeAll by Samsung.

  23. Well, I confirmed on "A" PS2 that my patched DVD-R did not play. I patched the PAL DVD 480x480 using SVCD2DVDMPEG application and burned using nero. I patched it to be 720X480, following both the authors guide and Baldrick's. I used a princo DVD-RW. The error may be anything from the patch, the fact that it is a PAL being played on a NTSC box, or the media brand and type. I cant confirm what it may be.

This particular PS2 plays images burnt at 1X using dvddecrpter supermedia DVD-R. It also played a princo DVD-R 1X burned with nero from DVDshrink.

I am currently doing a conversion of the movie(s) using DVD2AVI to TMPGENC with the standard NTSC 740x480 template, which based on passed experience should work. I was really hoping the patch thing would work on a PS2 (the same DVD played fine on my apex 1100W, which will play a cookie).
