  1. I've been doing a lot of this lately and I don't understand an error message I get with some movies when I try to burn in Nero.
This movie is RockStar...it's a DVD-5 and will all fit on one disk. Usually just need to rip and burn.
When I try to burn though, Nero gives me "video files reallocation failed" and says that the resulting DVD may not be playable. It gives the option of proceeding but I made a coaster that way once.

What does this error mean and what is causing it???

  2. Well, a search provided the fix - just burn as DVD ROM UDF/ISO instead of DVD VIDEO.
Still no clue as to what causes this though.

Actually burning right now so will have to wait a bit to test and make sure this will work.

This means that you have probably left out a needed file for DVD complience. Did you rip using "FILES" or "MOVIE"?

  4. It's a DVD 5. The WHOLE DVD is only 4.25GB so I ripped the whole movie using smartripper and selecting all files.

  5. Maybe something is wrong with the original? I just burned a coaster using the UDF/ISO mode burn.
I put DVDXCopy to work on it and it said that the chapter points were wrong. It's copying it anyway so I'll test it in a few minutes.

If it's a DVD5 then do the following:

    1. DVD Decrypter
    2. MODE - ISO
    3. ISO READ
    4. ISO WRITE

    Very simple!

I also get the Video Files Reallocation Failed error with Nero 5.5.9.17, if I ignor the error I get a possible read error message, if I also ignor that and still burn the image of the DVD and load with daemon tools it works fine (awaiting arrival of my DVD writer)

I note that the movie I was trying to backup had .srm files

    ie. VTS_03_1.VOB and VTS_03_1.SRM

IFOupdate would not run with the srm files in place, so I deleted them,

Does anyone know what the SRM files are, and are they affecting Nero?

    Method Used...

    DVD Decryptor
    SubRip
    DVD2-AVI - AVIsynth - CCE
    DVDMaestro
    IFOupdate
    Nero

  8. Well, DVDXcopy did the job. I fast forwarded through it looking for any errors or anything but it seems to play fine.

ZippyUK - this DVD didn't have any *.SRM files so I don't know if that has anything to do with your error.

joepic - next time I run into this I will try the ISO rip/burn. Thanks.

  9. Zippyuk - .SRM files are created by certain versions of subrip and as far as i know they are some type of subtitle index file, i stick with version 1.06 as this does not create them but still fully supports DVDMaestro.

If they are on the original disc and you have rebuilt the vobs including subtitles using DVDMaestro i would say that you can delete them as they would not be required

Sorry about the cross post, thanks for the reply.

Do you have any ideas on the Nero error ???

1st error Video Files Reallocation Error
if 1st error ignored, 2nd error Possible Read Error Occured...

If I still burn ISO image ignoring the 2 errors, and then mount the image with Daemon Tools it plays just like the original, still awaiting my DVD Writer so I cannot test that yet.

    Thanks again....

  11. Not sure on the Nero error as i always use Prassi Primodvd to write my discs, I assume when you ran ifoupdate you did the Correct VTS Sectors as if this has not been run it might cause this type of error

I've had this problem from time to time.

Try selecting "DVDROM" UDF 1.2 instead of DVD Video.

    Usually works for me.

If you ripped the entire DVD and it is under the limit, then when you selected Video DVD from Nero's menu, there should have been the standard VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders. You have to copy everything you ripped obviously into the VIDEO_TS folder. If you don't re-write the IFO's, the IFO is looking for the copyright BS, etc. Video_TS.VOB, VIDEO_TS.VOB and .BUP have to be there otherwise Nero says, "sorry, not all the files the DVD needs to play are present."

Had it happen several times when not ripping the entire DVD on accident.

Yup. That's what I did. All files, correct directories...plays fine on the computer with WinDVD.
Nero doesn't want to burn it.

I am somewhat new at this but I've copied a few this way. The reason I started this thread was to see if anyone knows why this movie is acting differently than the 6 or 8 single layer DVDs that I've copied with no problems.

I copied all files also, then just replaced the VTS files with transcoded video and used ifoupdate...

    Very odd.

Have you tried to use just a regular template (ISO/UDF) and create the directories (VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS) off of the root? Some folks in other forums suggest that that works.
