  1. If I examine an avi or mpeg file after capturing video from a poor quality VHS tape, the frame sticks for hundreds of frames (stays the same, whatever) while the audio continues. I can get ok files from better quality VHS tape.

Before I rush out and spend more money are there any suggestions (I just upgraded to Asus P4PE, 2.4 gighz :-) to try and solve the problem).

    Computer Equipment:
    Asus P4PE, 2.4 gighz Intel.
    512 Mgb ram
Fast 120 and 80 gig drives
    Win XP home

    I have used the following:
Video board: ATI Rage (in ATI All in Wonder Radeon package)
Capture programs: Tried MMC 7.6 and Virtual VCR with Huffy
Editing of Files: Ulead Video Studio 6

(I am still trying to find out if I have DMA enabled for my drives. I did before I repaired XP. Now I donot seem to have an "Advanced Setting" tab on my "Device Manager" for my harddrives. Isn't XP fun.

Is this an impossible task with poor quality VHS or would another software, capture board (Aver?) do the job.

    Thanks, Dusty

  2. This may or may not help you, I had a very old tape that would skip frames when I would try to convert it with my BT878 card. I eventually gave up on this card due to other issues with it and bought a sony digital8 cam with digital passthrough. No more problems.

The sony also has an integrated time base corrector which may be the reason the tape worked with the camera... I really do not know, just thought I would share my experience.
