I apologize if this is the wrong place to put this message, but I am unsure which group to put it in.
I have been using a computer I setup about a year ago to record TV programs off of my DirecTV system using a PIII 700mhz Machine and a Rage Fury Pro card. It records fine and plays back fine real-time DivX captures, but I can't record one thing and watch another taped program.
I have been considering purchasing one of the new Mini-ITX motherboards and placing it in an old VCR case and connecting an 802.11a card to it and to the computer I currently capture on.
What I want to do is use my current machine to do the capturing and use the Mini-ITX machine to do the viewing and user interface since I can set it with my regular AV components and can hide the big capture box away in another part of the house where it isn't an eye sore.
Has anyone else done something like this? Can anyone tell me what the minimum processor speed is that will handle both playing back DivX and communicating with the network? The Mini-ITX boxes seem to have a choice of 500 and 800 mhz cpus. The 500mhz does not need a fan, so it is what I would prefer to use since it would be nice and quiet.
Any hints and tips would be appreciated.
