  1. My Avermedia VCR app can capture at either 640x480 or 720x480. I can also pick whatever bitrate I want. If I am going to making SVCD's, do I need to chose a high bitrate when I capture? When I go to TMPEGec to convert, it will only let me choose 2500 for the bitrate. Does that make a difference?

Also, what resolution should I choose to capture in, 720x480 or 640x480?

    TIA

TMPG WILL let you use a bitrate other than 2520kbs. You have to select "load" and find "unlock.mcf" Beware if you do that, you will be making a non-standard SVCD (or an XSVCD). I wouldn't bother capping above 640x480 if you are making a SVCD (which ends up 480x480).

  3. What bitrate should I use on my orignal cap from Avermedia VCR? Should I just use 2520, or go higher?

    Definately go higher.....

The higher quality the source the better the encode will be.

    Try anywhere between 6000-8000 bitrate.

I would also suggest using the highest resolution available, provided you can capture w/out dropping frames.
what are you askin' me for...
    I'm an idiot!
