  1. im a bit confused about what happens when you resize a movie

if i have a divx which is 640 x 272 & i encode it to (for istance) cvd which i beleive is resolution D1 352 X 576 (PAL) does this mean i loose resolution on the width & stretch the vertical resolution?

i am very confused about how resizing works & would appreciate some help here

    Yes and no.

640x272 is most likely not interlaced. What FPS? if it's DVD, it 'should' be 24 fps. If it's 30 fps, someone didn't know what they were doing.

Are you PAL? if not don't encode to it. 352x576 @ 25 fps is really 352x288 at 60 fields/second ( 2 fields to a frame for interlaced ).

Summary, you won't lose much with the conversion. Pay attention to the frame rates. That will make a bigger mess than the resolution. converting 24 fps to 25 isn't too bad.

Hi I live in Sweden and have a couple DivX movies which is fps is 23.976.
Can I just burn it and play it on my DVD or do I have to encode something,if so how?

If the source is NTSC, leave it as NTSC. If you are in the UK your hardware will almost certainly play it with no problems. Converting to PAL can be a pain and can cause playback problems such as video stutter.
