I made a SVCD using DVD2SVCD (+TMPGEnc) and burned it with Nero as image (cue file). It plays well on my PC with PowerDVD but stutters alot on my DVD standalone (Panasonic SC-HT95). The video plays smooth initially (no audio for 1 or 2 seconds) on the standalone, but when the audio starts playing with the video it starts to stutter. Sometimes the stuttering stops, then starts again. What is the deal here? Is it some conversion settings or is it my standalone DVD player (it says it can play VCDs). This happens both for VCDs and SVCDs.

Well, according to the DVD players compatibility list this machine does not play SVCD's, only VCD's. So I have to ask if the VCD's you have tried were completley standards compliant. If so I can only suggest trying different media brands.

I tried SVCD as well as VCD settings and on different brands of CD-R and CD-RW. It stutterson the standalone DVD but not the PC DVD.
