  1. Greetings All,

    I recently purchased a spindle of 25 of these DVD-R's and either have a bad batch or they are basically just poor quality media, but before I try to return them I thought I would see if anyone here might be able to point out something that I have overlooked. Here are the details:

    1. Capture from camcorder using SCLive (VHS source);
    2. Frameserve (AVIsynth script) into TMPGEnc from VDub;
    3. Create .m2v (audio exported to .wav separately in VDub);
    4. Convert .wav to .ac3 using BeSweet;
    5. Author using Spruceup, export to .img;
    6. Burn image (Pioneer A05) using DVD Decrypter.

    I am putting 5 - 22min TV episodes on each DVD-R, which is approx. 4.2gb in size. The problem is that when I write to the Ritek media and play them on a standalone player (Pioneer DV250, Philips DVD825), they work perfectly except for the last episode, which skips or just plain looks horrible. The same image burned to a Maxell or Pioneer DVD does not seem to have this problem. I have burned to 3 Ritek discs and they all do the same thing. However, a 70 min movie (approx. 2.6gb) on the same Ritek media works great, which I suppose would mean that the media is technically compatible with the standalones. So I guess my question would be is there a known issue with this kind of media when you get too close to its capacity or go over a certain amount, say like 4gb?

    I know the obvious solution is to stick with the more expensive media, but I'd like to find a way to make it work if I can, which I'm sure you can all appreciate.

    Thanks!

  2. Maybe if you will send you Manufacturer ID using ADVDInfo somebody can see if they have same media with same issue.

    That's strange. If you're using the same silver Ritek's that I've used in the past they should be really good. I've never had a problem with them and they've always played flawlessly. It sounds like its a bad batch.

  4. Well, I was told I was getting Ritek silver/purple but according to ADVDInfo I would say that they were not exactly truthful with me:

    00 42 00 00 01 40 C1 FD 9E D8 50 00 02 87 0D 13 .B...@....P.....
    88 99 80 00 03 4C 65 61 64 20 44 00 04 61 74 61 .....LEAD D..ATA
    20 20 20 00 05 00 00 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 .............

    Anyway, I am starting to believe the media is not so much defective as it is just not 100% compatible with my 2 DVD players as the problem discs play ok in the DVD-ROM drive. They actually play great in the standalones until approx. 80-90 minutes into it when they start to stutter and skip. Is this not uncommon? Can anyone shed some light on this frustrating media issue?

    Thanks!

  5. Strange... they look more like Accu based on ID.

    This is from DVDR Media

    junk. they lock up in my pioneer c503d after about 60-70 minutes of play back.. and this player, plays everything.

    Scratch my previous post. The lock up error was due to .95 Ifoedit having a bug with 3:2 pulldown.

    These only burn at 1X on A04 and latest nero, but DVD play back is perfect.
    Any clues ???
