  1. Hi I am looking for a easy to use software that can make menus and chapters for vcds or svcd's. I want the main menu to link to a chapters menu just like on dvd's. If you think you know than please reply, because I cant find one.

Well I would say vid pack 4 is best for vcds but since it doesnt do svcds, I'd have to go with I-Author as the best overall authoring program since it does both vcds and svcds and will basically do just about anything you could possibly want.

But vcdimager is free and you cant beat that and it also allows you to do menus and chapters for both svcds and vcds.

    How about off-spec VBR VCD's and SVCD's?

I accidentally imported a VBR MPEG-1 xVCD into VideoPack 4 once and the program didnt seem to mind. I clicked "Make Image" and it was going to make the image -- I stopped it when I realized what I'd done wrong. I should have made the disc anyway to see if it worked. I should have more time to experiment this week -- I worship VideoPack 4!

  6. The Philips Video CD 2.0 Toolkit is also free and has an easy to use Windows GUI for making VCD's.

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/VCD2TK_Index.htm

It's very strict about VCD 2.0 compliance and it doesn't do SVCD.

I haven't had a chance to update the guide yet, but there is also a new utility that came out last week that allows you to use the currently popular burner software, such as Nero, CDRWin, etc.

  7. The Toolkit also allows you to put together slide shows, using either digital pictures, such as JPEG's, GIF, TIFF, etc., and/or PowerPoint slides. You can also add CD audio tracks, and control which songs play via menus.

And yes, it will do chaptered movies similiar to DVD's.

  8. I think the best authoring program is TScv along with vcdimager. It is real good with svcd's. Haven't done vcd's but i know it does do it. The latest version of TSCV can do alot of authoring with your files.
