Hi
I have been following the great guides on DVD-ripping and have managed to create back-ups of DVD-9/5 movies with much success. However, since discovering that my old Cyberhome ADL-528 didn't play Nero burnt DVD-R's (apparently due to the UDF 1.02 problem) I have had a strange problem this weekend and just wanted your advice...
OK, I had a problem with one DVD not playing in the 528 but it was fine in my new DVD player (a Limit 9091). I reburnt with RecordNOW Max and hey presto, it worked fine in both. I then ripped/re-encoed A Beautiful Mind. But RecordNOW kept stopping before the burn stating an error had occured (not specific). So I thought I'd try the UDF and the UDF/ISO method's for Nero and it sort of worked in the Cyberhome (it loaded but then jumped straight to Chapter 2, which is the start of the move after the titles). In the Limit is loaded but it just kept freezing on thee titles (I couldn't skip chapter). I reburnt in Nero, under the ISO method - wouldn't even load in the Limit - same thing in the 528, started at chapter two.
So, I re-ripped it to the hard-drive (from the copy as I'd deleted it!). And I thought I'd try and create an image file using Ifo Edit. It said somethign about it updating some of the files but then came up with an error before creating the image. I thought I'd try RecordNOW again and this time it accepted the VIDEO_TS folder (it was highlighted red, whereas before I noticed only the AUDIO_TS folder was, so I assume Ifo Edit has made it a compliant format?). Reburnt the DVD-R with this program and now, it works perfectly in the Cyberhome - no skipping of chapters, titles are smooth, no jumping. But, now in the Limit the titles play but they 'stick' on certain images (the audio still plays and counter still moves) and then when the movie proper starts (chapter 2) everything seems to work fine.
OK, so there is my story (!) - my question is why is this happening? All the other DVD backups I;ve made (admittedly only about 3-4) have worked fine on the Limit every time. Could it be the way I encoded it? Or is this purely a burning issue? I used CBR this time whereas before when I had to re-encode I used 2 pass VBR. But it's odd how the Cyberhome plays it perfectly now, so it can;t be an encoding problem. And surely it can't be bit-rate as once the titles have gone the Limit plays it as expected. Does anyone havce any suggestions on why this is happening? Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions! If you need anymore info from then please let me know.
Thanks again
