  1. Sony-DCR-TRV27 MiniDV Cam
    Plextor 40/12/40 USB2.0 Burner
    Adobe Premiere - Capturing/Editing
    TMPG - Conversion
    Nero - Burning

I'm planning on putting home videos on CD's for DVD player viewing.
Also, movie rips and games to CD.

    Some questions....
    1. Will the TV27 give desirable results as a "passthrough" for analog device captures (such as VHS)?
    2. Would a DVD burner render better results for my planned tasks?
    3. Will the USB2.0 interface on the TRV27 give good results capturing to my computer USB2.0 port?

    Any alternative suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks!

I bought the TRV27 back in July and it has worked great for me. The "passthrough" does a great job of converting any type of video format into digital video. DV capture is about 13GB per hour. The "pass through" feature only works thru the firewire connector from the camera to the PC. You will need a firewire card installed for this in your pc. The only thing you use the USB port connection for will be to download pics or MPEG clips recorded on the memory stick. You DO NOT use it for DV transfer of any kind.
Do you have to have an external burner? If not and you have room for an internal I can echo the previous posters suggestion of the LiteOn drives. I have used their drives for over a year and a half and had nothing but success with them.
I just recently bought a Cendyne 104 DVD-R (OEM Pioneer 104) for $200 at Office Max and have just started getting into the same video transfer that you mentioned. With a CD burner you will be limited as the amount of video you can put on a blank disc if you want to keep the quality of the final video at a decent bitrate.
I buy all my components from NewEgg.com and can highly recommend them as a supplier.
Let me know if I can be of anymore help.

    Regards..

I'll pickup a DVD burner instead.

Thanks for the software tips as well.
    Very much appreciated.....
You folks have cleared things up for me nicely.
