Melcoinc Buffalo DVM-4222IU2 based on Sony DRX-500UL for 37,800 Yen on December 14 in Tokyo
I feel we can see 4x DVD+R/-R drives with both USB 2.0 and IEEE 1394 connectors for under 25,000 Yen in a few weeks.
ALL TYPES of DVD writers in Japan are getting cheaper and cheaper almost every week. TEAC has also released 4x DVD-R drives based on the Pioneer DVR-A05 and the price is the lowest ever for 4x DVD-R writers. IO DATA 4x DVD+R drives based on the NEC ND-1100A cost even less (just $30 more than Ricoh MP5125A now).
[EDIT] It was TEAC, not TDK. Corrected.[/EDIT]

I've ordered two units. Maybe I'll get them during this week (Monday morning here.) I'll pay about 700 USD for the drives alone and I have to get USB 2.0/IEEE 1394 cards and +R/-R/+RW/-RW media separately. One small problem is that though this drive is basically the same as Sony DRU-500A, there is only me who's going to have this one from Buffalo in all the forums I go to. I'm trying to persuade some of my South Korean forum friends to buy the same drive so as to minimize the efforts for transition. -
The number of units will be at least six. I successfully persuaded every potential Pioneer buyer to buy Sony instead.
They will arrive to each end-user by Friday (Saturday for distant cities - too heavy door-to-door traffics these days thanks to Christmas).
The next will be Sanyo writers with 4x DVD+RW and Mt. Rainier! -
