    my friend gave me an mpeg2 file over the internet but i want to make a regular vcd, not an svcd. is there anyway to convert it to mpeg1?

    You can use TMPGEnc to open the MPEG2 and then encode to MPEG1
    If you are having problems opening it, use DVD2AVI to create a D2V/WAV from your MPEG2 file, and load the D2V as the Video Source in TMPGEnc and the WAV as the Audio, and encode.
