Can ripping to hard drive really damage the origanol DVD and your hard drive?

Yes, I when yo are ripping your dvd and encode it at the same time your dvd player can get over heated. But if you rip to your hd and then encode it's safe I think.

Mcshead is correct. Do not ever re-encode your DVD directly from the drive. ALWAYS rip the DVD to the hard drive, and then work from the hard drive.

You can cause damage to your DVD drive.
Ripping to the hard drive damages neither the disc, drive, or HD.
