  1. I used the guide http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/78732.php had to start somewhere.

A few things did not work correctly and also I used DVD2.0 not DVD1.7 so the menu's are different so I most likely did something wrong.

I set everything as close to the printed manual as possible. I had a problem in playback with the setting 720x480 for export resolution as the gude shows. Well it did not play smooth as it slams my CPU to 100% so I guess this is the wrong setting. What is the sensible resolution setting for the final divx? Like I said this is my first divx so I want to make sure I do rational divx conversions but I assume the setting of 720x480 is not rational (EDIT: I had the bitrate set to 2091 the calculated value for 2 CD-r's in case this was part of this problem).

The bitrare calculator was reasonably accurate. The sum of the two output files using the calculated bitrate was very close in size as calculated. The problem was that I set "Volume Don't Exceed" to a custom size of 700 the size that will fit on 1 CD-r. The problem is I ended up with two files of 720meg and 416 meg so it did not limit to 700 (yes I did hit APPLY when I set the size to 700meg ). What went wrong here? Should I have used a different setting?

For sound settings the DVD2.0 is very different than DVD1.7 so no idea what the new settings mean. I chose LAME. There is no setting for frequency only for bitrate and (stereo or joint stereo) for the frequency they used Q1, Q2....etc so I have no idea what to select? Anyone know what these Q1, Q2 relate to?

  3. "KNOT" yet?

I will do some searching on that I never heard of it but then again there is alot about this stuff I don't knowt? Thanks

EDIT; I looked at Gordian KNot and will try it. I am also trying to learn more about divx in general not just how to go DVD to divx. I was using this gude and result to help me understand this divx stuff but first its best to just use the easy tools. They key question I would like some gudance on is this:

What is the sensible resolution setting for the final divx? Like I said this is my first divx so I want to make sure I do rational divx conversions but I assume the setting of 720x480 is not rational (EDIT: I had the bitrate set to 2091 the calculated value for 2 CD-r's in case this was part of this problem).
From my first post. This will help when I do captured and use divx but am not just backing up DVD's.

    Thanks ALL
