I wanted to encode my film to a vcd format(mpeg) but i dont know the video source. if it is ntsc, ntsc film or pal. how would I knoe?

I don't think the source video type really matters. So don't worry about it.

Huntress, if your source file is avi format, open it in virtualdub and go to file->file information. It will tell you the resolution, framerate etc. Check this info against the NTSC/PAL info listed at www.vcdhelp.com/vcd
