How dangerous is flashing firmware? Is it fixable if I mess up? Will reformating fix a mess-up?

If the player is not total crap, and if the probability of power cuts is low, there's generally not much that can go wrong, provided you make sure the Firmware is for your model. However any player that isn't (see above) should not accept any firmware not inteded for it.
So basically the only real problem should be power cuts. And even if it does go wrong, any good repair shop should be able to fix it.--
