  1. I am having real problems playing my avi's at decent quality. Before, the an avi would look very good, close to dvd even, and now would have artifacts everywhere. The various divx codecs i installed must have been the problem, so i tried removing them all.

Through the add/remove programs menu, i removed anything divx related and also nimo codecs pack. I use dvd2svcd in combination with CCE 2.5, and reinstalled those two too. But still, when I go to system properties, then video codecs, a bunch still appear, including divx 5.01 and 4.11. I tried removing them from there and it gave me a warning but I proceeded anyways. Upon returning to the system properties, I found that windows seems to have replaced it.

I really would like to wipe the codec slate clean and play everything at good quality again- any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Octavian

  2. By the way, this occurs when I play the avi's in both powerdvd and wmp.
The poor viewing quality produces worse quality svcd's too.

not sure how to do it in ME or XP but...

in 98 you can go to Control Panel > Multimedia > Devices > Video Compression Codecs, highlight the one you want, click Properties and Remove.

in 2000 it's Control Panel > Sounds and Multimedia > Hardware > Video Codecs, click Properties, go to Properties tab, highlight the one you want and click Remove.
