I did a test capture with VirtualDub and my Studio DC10+. I finally have got the settings and space I wanted to do 480x480 for SVCD creation. I did about 4 minutes of test capture off of VCR. It all seemed to work, and I have a big AVI file. I downloaded (per the instructions here) the latest TMPGenc (12h?)
I followed the instructions on how to convert that AVI to an SVCD MPEG2 file for writing. It looked like everything was set up correctly, but after a short conversion (about 15 minutes, I think) I noted that there is no video. Audio works fine, but there's just black for the video. The AVI file does have video and audio, so I know the source file is OK. It's just the encoding process, something is wrong. Anyone know if I'm missing something really obvious?

  2. Sorry, I can't give you any hints, but I can confirm I have the same problem, and as you, can't see what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas ?

  3. Can you play the avi in media player?

  4. Just like lymang, I can play everything - also in Media Player - until the last step which is processing using TMPGEnc and after 12-13 minutes everything is in blank in the target file, but still not in the source.

  5. Hi, I have the same problem too, and to avoid it, i tryed cinema craft encoder. It makes mpg1 & mpg2 with a quality much more better then tmpegenc.
I suggest you to try it, you 'll love it

    Bye.

P.S. it's faster then any encoder I've ever see.

  6. I have this problem with tmpg while trying to join 2 or more mpeg's into one file.

Thanks, I'll give cinema encoder a go.

.... btw where would I find that?!.

I forgot to post here again. I got it to work by using an earlier version of TMPGEnc (12a, versus 12h). I changed no settings, just used an earlier version of the program. Of course, I have some other problems with THAT, but nonetheless, at least now it's creating an MPG2 with video. <shrug>
